All in the Family
There's that old saying, "You can choose your friends, but you can't choose your family." One of my favorite shows of all time was "All in the family" with Archie Bunker, Edith, Gloria and Meathead. You couldn't have put more unlikely people together and they said things to each other that were astonishing, rude, mean and often unnecessary. But I think that's why many of us liked it, because it was raw and it took the events and attitudes of the times and put a humorous twist on them.
In our passage this week, Genesis 49, Jacob blesses his 12 sons. All these boys had the same father but 4 different mothers. That right there has the potential to create some drama. Anyway, God uses these boys to create the 12 tribes of Israel and a nation. We will look at them and see what they have to say to us regarding our period of transition. What lessons can we learn that will help us continue to move forward.
