Prayers, Promises & Free Books
Greetings from your pastor! Just a few announcements and reminders this week. Please continue to be in prayer for Ronnie Nuckols and the Frontier Fellowship team he's serving with in Niger. Ronnie is scheduled to return on August 17th. If you haven't yet committed to sponsoring a child's education in Niger for the coming school year, please give this wonderful opportunity your prayerful consideration. Brochures are available at the church. The schools operated by the Evangelical Church of Niger make the best use of your gifts; $200 for one year of education and boarding is a great investment in the life of a child.
The sermon text for this Sunday, August 12th, is Ephesians 3:7-21, as we continue our short series on this New Testament letter that contains principles and promises for us as part of the Body of Christ. The sermon title is, "All the Fullness of God." Markus Compton will be back from vacation, and Lori Alford will be back with us after leading a successful retreat last weekend at the Women's Correctional Center.
Free Books & Tapes - Take a few minutes after worship to see if you'd like to take home any of the remaining books, VHS or audio tapes from the updating of our church library. Some older materials have been removed from circulation to make room for new ones, and you are welcome to take home some of the "de-circulated" items. While it's not required, we hope you'll consider leaving a modest donation in the basket for future library purchases, in exchange for the books or other materials you take home. This "book table" is located in Holman Hall.
Summer Choir Sundays – August 19th & 26th, and Sept. 2nd, will be “Summer Choir” Sundays at Hebron Church. That means you can come and rehearse during the Sunday School hour (at 9:00 a.m.) and sing with the choir that day, even if you are not a regular choir member. We hope many of our “regulars” will be here to sing on those days, as well. Summer Choir is open to both youth and adults. Regular choir rehearsal resumes on September 5th.
Mulch & Clean-up Day, August 25th – It will soon be time for our Day School students and teachers to return to Hebron. With an eye toward the start-up of Day School, our deacons have set a “clean-up and mulch day." Please pencil this on your calendar, and plan to help, if you can. Work will start at 9:00 a.m. and go until about noon.
Hebron Day School - Our day school program starts back up on September 4th. If you know a child who could benefit from being part of this half-day program, please make sure parents or caregivers are aware of the opportunity to register at www.hebronpresbyterian.com. There will be a day school open house on August 30th, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
Women's Bible Study - Our Tuesday and Thursday Bible study groups resume on Sept. 4th and 6th. The Tuesday group will be using a Beth Moore study on the book of Daniel. The Thursday group will be using a Precept study on the gospel of Luke. For more info and to register, contact Lori Alford at email@example.com.
Stewardship Kick-off September 9th - We seek to be good stewards of God's gifts all year long, but on Sept. 9th, we'll kick off our annual stewardship emphasis. This will be a time for you to give prayerful consideration to your giving plans for 2019. Stewardship dedication Sunday will be October 14th.
Wednesday Night Special – Mark your calendar now for WNS, which starts back up on October 3rd. We’ll enjoy a weekly meal together through mid-November. Our study this fall will be taken from a book called Concentric Circles of Concern by Oscar Thompson. The “concentric circles” concept helps us look at how we talk about our faith in the context of our personal relationships.
Heritage Concert, Friday, October 19th - As part of our 175th anniversary heritage celebration, there will be a concert on the Friday evening before our Heritage Sunday, featuring the Hebron Boys and other musical guests.
Heritage Sunday, October 21st – Hebron Presbyterian’s 175th “birthday” as a congregation will be celebrated with a special service of worship and a luncheon to follow. Our guest preacher will be the Rev. Walter Mann.
Our Operation Christmas Child "Packing Party" is set for Friday, Nov. 2nd. Watch for more details, and in the meantime, pick up a few more items to place in the tubs in the hallway outside Holman Hall. Thanks so much for all you've donated so far!
