Hebron Day School, February 2012

Matthew 22:37 "Love the Lord your God with all your heart."

First, we would like to thank all the dads and guests who joined us for Father's Night in January. The children had a wonderful time playing games, making crafts, and eating snacks at our "Circus." We hope everyone enjoyed their night!

To parents of current students, this is a "registration reminder" for you: this is the last week to register your child for 2012-2013 before registration opens to the public. Registration forms are taken on a first-come, first-serve basis, and places are guaranteed for current students as long as we receive your forms by Feb. 1. (If the deadline presents a problem for anyone please talk to Mrs. B).

Our Valentine's Party will be held on Tues., Feb. 14 at 11am. All parents are welcome to attend, and are encouraged to participate! The parents of the Little Ducks class will be planning and organizing this party. The children are welcome to bring valentines to school on Feb. 14 to give to their friends. Please see your newsletter for a full lists of names in your child's class.

MAD Science of Central VA will be at Hebron Day School on Feb. 22 ! Also related to exciting upcoming programs, Paint Explorers starts up again on Feb. 2. February is slated to be a very fun and productive month!

Hebron Day School, November 2011

Psalm 107:1  "Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good."

November is proving to be a fun and busy month for us at Hebron! First, we would like to say "thank you" to everyone who contributed Matchbox cars and/or hair clips for Operation Christmas Child. Hebron Church was able to pack up 200 boxes filled with necessities and goodies that will be sent to children all over the world, and we greatly appreciate your contributions! Some of you participated in the actual shoebox packing. It was great having you there and your help was much appreciated.

In preparation for Thanksgiving, the families and staff of Hebron Day School count each of our blessings, and would like to help those who are less fortunate in the community. As our Thanksgiving Service Project, we ask that each child please bring at least one canned food item to school by Friday, Nov. 18. All food collected will be donated to a local food bank in Goochland County. Please take the time to explain to the children what we are doing and why it is so important to help others. Thank you for helping us with this project!

Our Thanksgiving Feast will be on Tueday, Nov. 22 at 11am. This feast is sponsored by the parents of our Lovebugs class - we are thankful for your time and wonderful efforts in planning this event! All parents are invited to help with the preparations and to join us on the 22nd. On the same note, a special "thank you" goes out to the parents of the Big Bears class who volunteered their time and talents for the fun Halloween party.

Hebron Day School will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday (Nov. 23-25). We hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Fall Service Project

Parents, Hebron Day School likes to do a Service Project in October and November to help teach the children what it means to share with those less fortunate. Our October project will be Operation Christmas Child. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is "to demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to needy children around the world." The power of a simple gift begins right here at Hebron Church. Hebron church members collect items throughout the year to pack into shoe boxes that will go to children all around the world. Hebron's goal is 200 filled boxes.

We at Hebron Day School are going to help out this year by collecting the following:

Hair clips for children

Matchbox or Hot Wheels care (the small ones)

Tennis Balls

If you would like to help out in this very worthwhile effort, please send in your donations by the end of October. Thank you so much for your help and support!

Hebron Day School, October 2011

Psalm 23:1 "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want."

It is so great seeing so many familiar little faces back at school, and many wonderful new ones too! We're off to a great start to the school year. One of the things we are learning about this month is fire safety. A special visitor from the Goochland Fire and Rescue Department will be visiting us again this year with some of his fireman friends! We greatly appreciate his talent and dedication to teaching fire safety to the children. Other things we are learning about in October are nocturnal animals, fairy tales, and rhymes. Coming up is our Halloween (Storybook Dress-Up) Party on Oct. 26, at 11am. The children are asked to dress up as their favorite storybook character and enjoy a costume parade and refreshments... all courtesy of our "Big Bears" class. Thank you, parents, for all your wonderful efforts!

It's that time of year again...Paint Explorers starts October 6! This is always such a fun activity for the children who participate in this after school event. We'll also be taking our first field trip of the year! "Mrs. Sheila" from our "Big Dogs" class, has graciously invited us back to her home to spend the morning. We're planning to have a lively fall festival there with tractor rides, games, snacks, and fun! All parents and siblings are welcome to attend.

Please continue to sign up for our "Ready, Set, READ!" program. The children love it when parents and congregation members stop in to read a favorite story. If you have signed up, we'll be in touch very soon to schedule a day that is convenient for you.

Lastly, many, many thanks to all the parents who have purchased and donated items from our Wish List! We are very grateful for your generous donations. We would also like to thank all the grandparents and special friends who joined us on Grandparent's Day. We hope you had as much fun as we did!

Hebron Day School, May 2011

Psalm 150:6a "Let everything that breathes praise the Lord."

May promises to be a very busy month for preschool. We have several special events planned, beginning with our annual Mother's Day Luncheon on Wednesday, May 4, at 11:00 AM. All the children will be inviting their mom or another special guest to join them that morning at preschool. The children will present gifts they have made, sing songs, and then enjoy lunch with their moms.

Our End of the Year Party will be held Tuesday, May 24, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. This is a morning spent outdoors with parents and siblings enjoying lots of games, special surprises and treats.

On Wednesday, May 25, Hebron Day School will hold its Closing Program and Graduation at 6:30 pm in the Church Sanctuary, followed by a covered dish supper in the Fellowship Hall. This will be our last day of preschool for this year. We would love to have members of our church family join us for any or all of our May events.

We also have exciting things happening over the summer. Hebron Day School will hold its first ever Summer Session during the weeks of July 19-21 and July 26-28 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM. We are looking forward to seeing lots of our current students and a few new faces during July for summer themes and outdoor fun! We are very grateful to the Session of Hebron Presbyterian Church for approving this program for us.

On behalf of all the students, parents, and staff of Hebron Day School, I would like to take this opportunity to say "THANK YOU" to the members of Hebron Presbyterian Church for all your help, support, and prayers this past year. We are ending the school year with a total of 40 stiudents! We couldn't accomplish all we do without you. God Bless!

Hebron Day School, April 2011

Matthew 5:16a "Let your light shine before others..."

Hebron Day School will be celebrating Easter with the annual Easter Egg Hunt on Wednesday, April 13, at 11:00 AM. The parents from all our classes will prepare over 400 Easter eggs for us to hide. All parents and siblings are invited to join us, and invite church friends to come if you can. The children will look forward to this fun part of the Easter holiday, but we will also be teaching the real story of Easter to them through our Bible stories and songs throughout April.

Hebron Day School will be on Spring Break during the week of April 18-22 and the school will be closed. We re-open on Tuesday, April 26.

We are continuing to accept applications for the 2011-2012 school year. Please continue to spread the word about our program and let your friends in the community know that we still have class spaces available.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our church friends and families a very HAPPY EASTER!

Hebron Day School, March 2011

Psalm 4:7 "You have put gladness in my heart."

We have another busy month ahead with several special events planned for March. During the first week of March, we will celebrate with our annual Dr. Seuss week and a visit from the Cat in the Hat on Wednesday, March 3rd. March is Reading Month at Hebron Day School and the children will be bringing in reading circles showing how many books they are "reading" at home. It is exciting to watch our Reading Bug grow along the hallway. At the end of March, everyone's efforts will be rewarded with an ice cream party. Also, parents and church members will continue to come to read to the children through our Ready, Set, READ! program.

During our unit on "Pets", we will have a child-friendly pet show on Wednesday, March 16th. The children and their parents will be bringing in their pets for all to see - and we may even have a goat this year!

March is also our month to hold our Paint Explorers after-school class. This class will begin on Thursday, March 3rd and conclude on Thursday, March 24th.

Registration for next year is going well - all our currently eligible children signed up to return! Please continue to spread the word about our preschool program and let us know if you know anyone who is interested and needs information.

As always, we greatly appreciate everyone's support of our program.

Shirley Bonovitch - Director (784-3950)

We are still enjoying our Ready, Set, READ program and would love to have more volunteers from Hebron Church come in to read a story to the children. Please let us know if you would like to volunteer - there is a sign-up sheet on the church bulletin board in the hallway.

The Day School Valentine's Party is on Wednesday, February 9th at 11 AM. The parents of our Little Ducks class are in charge of planning and organizing this event. All parents are invited to attend.

Hebron Day School, January 2011

Hebron Day School celebrated on December 15th with a Christmas Party planned and organized by the parents of the 4-day class. We are grateful for their support. We also would like to thank Madison Long, our "special visitor", for visiting with each child and allowing them to tell him their Christmas wishes.

The annual Christmas program and nativity was held on the evening of December 15th. All the preschool children participated, and the Fellowship Hall was filled to overflowing with parents, grandparents, and guests. We would like to thank those members of the Hebron congregation attending as well as Dr. Wood for providing our welcome and Christmas prayer. We also thank Markus Compton for providing the beautiful music prior to our program.

We are excited to welcome a new student to Hebron Day School in January. Please welcome Morgan Nichols who will join our 2-day program. Morgan's older brother, Max, is a Hebron Day School graduate.

Hebron Day School reopens on Tuesday, January 4th. Special events this month include Pajama Day on Wednesday, January 12th, and Father's Night on Wednesday, January 19th. Registration for the 2011-2012 school year also begins in January. Current students, their siblings, Hebron Church members will have first priority. Hebron Day School, March 2010

March is Reading Month for the preschool. In addition to our program called "Ready, Set, READ", the children and their parents will be reading books at home and sending in reading logs that we'll make into a giant bug. Watch our bug grow as we read! We'll also have a special guest joining us the first week of March to celebrate our unit on Dr. Seuss.

Hebron Day School will be making up time missed due to the snowy weather. Hebron Day School hours will be extended to 1:00 pm on March 10, 17, 24, and 31.

We have several special events planned for March. We will have our "Annual" Pet Show on Wednesday, March 17 with a lot of very "child-friendly" family pets at school. We've done this for the past couple of years and usually have quite a variety of pets!

Our Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Wednesday, March 31, at noon since this is one of our extended class days. All classes will participate in the hunt as well as any siblings who are with us. The parents will be donating the filled eggs and working that morning to hide them.

Hebron Day School will be closed the week of April 6-9 for SPRING BREAK! School reopens on Tuesday, April 13th.

Thank you for your continued support of our program and we look forward to spending another Sunday with you in April.
